On Sunday the 10th October Pompey Lacrosse took on Warwick University, at Langstone, in division 1 of the South East Men’s Lacrosse Association, hoping to continue their winning streak after an 18-8 victory over Southampton in their first match of the season.

The first quarter was dominated by Portsmouth, just 6 minutes in Chris Willson scored the opening goal, and this was followed by several close misses whilst Pompey kept possession within Warwick’s half. The pressures upon Warwick eventually lead to another goal from Willson in the dying minutes of the first quarter.

The second quarter was opened with a torrent of goals, coming from Willson, Morris and, captain, Liam O’Mahoney, bringing the score to 7-0 by ten minutes in. Warwick gained possession through a midfield interception, leading to Dan Black’s first save in goal as Warwick fired their first on-target shot. After a time-out to regroup, Pompey came back to the dying minutes with an impressive goal from Oliver Bailey, followed by a one handed underarm crease dive from Wes Morris to finish the half at 9-0.

Just 3 minutes into the third quarter Willson got his fifth goal of the match bringing Portsmouth ten goals clear of the opposition. The rest of the quarter saw some great shots from the likes of Max West and Lewis Butler in the Midfield, whilst the Warwick Keeper managed to stop all shots from hitting the back of the net.

With a 10-0 lead going into the fourth quarter Portsmouth could really enjoy the last 20 minutes of the match. With a diving interception by Blackins to stop the attack dead, Portsmouth returned to attack, with superb goals coming from Joyce, Bailey and Willson bringing his personal tally up to 8 goals and earning himself man of the match.  Final scare 16-0.
